The Machine Pitch level is generally for players 7 and 8 years old and some 9 year olds. There is no live pitching but instead, the ball is "pitched" from a machine placed on the pitching mound. The rules and format of Machine Pitch are set up to be less intensive play than the upper levels and focus on the teaching and instructional aspects of the game. And even though the games are not played by "true" baseball rules, this is the first level where players begin to learn and play by most of the basic baseball rules.
Before the regular season starts, Machine Pitch teams practice once or twice a week (usually once during the week and once on weekends). After the regular season starts, Machine Pitch teams usually play twice per week (again, once during the week and once on the weekends). Machine Pitch games are played on the Byrd Park fields and the weekday games are usually the early games played from 5:15 - 6:45. Some Machine Pitch teams may have periodic practices inbetween games.
